Hamilton stops the Pole series by team colleague Valtteri Bottas. For Hamilton, it was the first pole in Monaco since 2015.

Hamilton had worked on a double pole in Monte Carlo four times: 2007, 2013 and 2014 each as second place, 2015 as polesetter. None of these five races could be won by the British.
