Prokop confirmed: Gensheimer remains DHB captain

Uwe Gensheimer remains captain of the German handballers. This was announced by the new Bundestrainer Christian Prokop at a media seminar Monday in Frankfurt.

“We have a breakthrough behind us and very many young players just installed on the king positions in the back room. There’s Uwe all the more important. He has a huge wealth of experience in stress situations and radiates calm,”said Prokop.

For Gensheimer, the games in the EM qualification against the WM third Slovenia on Wednesday and Saturday are the first under the new DHB coach. Prokops’debut (remiss and defeat against Sweden) had missed the left-hand side of the French top club Paris Saint-Germain, Defence Chief Finn Lemke had represented him as captain.

Ticket for the EM 2018 in Croatia tangible

Prokop named the games against Slovenia, I look forward to it, but it’s not about my person, it’s about us being successful as a team, said the 38-year-old in front of the pioneering duels on Wednesday in Ljubljana and Saturday in Halle/Westfalen.

Defender of title Germany is currently in the first place of the group 5 in front of Slovenia (3:1 points), Portugal (1:3) and Switzerland (0:4) and with two victories against Slovenia could advance the ticket for the European Championship 2018 in Croatia.

The first two teams of the total seven qualifying groups as well as the best group journeys will participate in the final round.
