On the derby race at the archrival, the handballers of the THW Kiel first gave themselves a “plea”. With the beer from the city of their rival, the THW stars positioned themselves as European Champion Rune Dahmke after the second success in the third duel with the SG Flensburg Handewitt within eleven days and witnessed the perfect completion of the derby trilogy.
Three days after the sensitive home slut (22:30) in the Champions League group game retaliated with a 26:25 in reverse.
“I am proud of the team and the reaction it showed after the debacle at home,” THW coach Alfred Gislason told the “Kieler News”. The record champion showed himself well recovered from the highest home square against Flensburg in history and ensured the 2:1 in this year’s Derby Balance. The first comparison of the “Derby Trial” in the Bundesliga was decided by the THW on the previous week with 24:23.
SG-Coach Ljubomir Vranjes argued with the referee’s performance (“A few bad decisions”) in the final phase and monitored “too many simple mistakes” with his team. Rasmus Lauge could only shorten 45 seconds before the end to 25:26.
Kiel shortens the delay to one point
With now eight points from eight games (from 14) Kiel is in the middle of the table of group A and has only one point left on Flensburg. The best pitchers were Niclas Ekberg at Kiel and Andreas Eggert on the side of the Flensburger with seven hits each.
The derby series between Kiel and Vice-Master Flensburg could be considerably extended in the second half of the season. Fix is the Bundesliga reenactment at the Danish border in February, further meetings are possible in the DHB Cup in April in Hamburg as well as in the K.o.-phase of the Champions League.
