Jos Verstpen: Bottas just not as good as Hamilton

Mercedes-Pilot Valtteri Bottas is currently in a difficult situation: The Finnish, who, after many setbacks, is still following his first season victory, runs the risk of becoming victims of the Mercedes-Stallords. In Sochi this year he had to give Lewis Hamilton the victory.

An unfair decision? Not if it’s Max Verstappen’s father Jos Verstappen. I can understand Mercedes,”says Michael Schumacher’s former teammate at Benetton, opposite”Ziggo Sport.” You have a great interest in winning the World Cup. And Bottas himself has made it to a certain extent and is simply not as good as Hamilton.”

In fact, the Finnish is in the World Cup with a delay of 124 points on Leader Hamilton in third place and can thus no longer theoretically become four races before the end.” That the team then focuses on Hamilton is normal,”says the father of the Red Bull pilot. I totally understand that.”

Nevertheless, he shows sympathy with the Finnish Mercedes pilot, who this year almost won in Bahrain, China, Azerbaijan and Sochi.” This is incredibly hard for Bottas,”he points out to the Mercedes Stallords in Russia. He knows, however, that he is the second driver.”

When asked whether his son Max Verstappen also made room against him in the case of a Stallorder, the Dutch only replies:”There can be no two captains on one ship. I think that says it all.”
