Hamilton: Mercedes problems not due to Ferrari pressure

The days when Mercedes travels as a clear favorite in every race are over. At the latest after the double failure in Austria and another defect in Hockenheim, the alarm bells sounded at the silver arrows. According to Lewis Hamilton, this has nothing to do with Ferrari challenging their fifth title.

I think we were just unlucky,”he says.”I think we were just unlucky.” I can’t be nervous or pressure on the team. We do what we love and we like it that way. We prefer to be under pressure. Everything works at the limit, including the car. And then such things sometimes happen.”

At the German Grand Prix, Hamilton and Mercedes were lucky enough to win back the table leaders. But the Ferrari is now considered not only to be faster, but also more reliable.

Wolff demands: “We have to get better”

“The others have not had such problems yet, but there is still a long way to go,” Hamilton believes in balancing justice. “We have to get better”

” Maybe they’ll get in trouble, too, or they won’t. All we can do is keep trying. There is no excuse for such scenarios and they do not happen to us lightly either. We just have to work even harder to make sure it doesn’t happen to us again.”

Mercedes Motosport Chief Toto Wolff openly admits:”The last few weeks have made some demands on us. It’s a hard fight we’ve lost too many times. It did not need the double failure in Austria, since we were against a doubly believed victory there. But this is how it works in motor sports.”

Wolff demands:”We simply have to improve –all of us –especially as regards the reliability and resilience of the car. We also need to minimize strategic errors and extract more performance from chassis and engine. This is the only way we can stay in the title fight.”
