In the previous year, Valtteri Bottas won at least three seasonal victories in its first Mercedes season. This year the Finnish is still waiting for a success, while teammate Lewis Hamilton is back on the World Cup course with six wins.
It’s quite disappointing and actually incredible that I haven’t won a season race yet,”the World Cup fourth leaves no doubt about his frustration.”It’s quite disappointing and actually incredible that I haven’t won a season race yet.” And I’m here to win races. Especially in the first race of the season, a few times there was not much missing.”
A reference to the races in China and Azerbaijan, when the Mercedes pilot looked like the sure winner just before the end and only by unfortunate circumstances drew the shorter ones. In Bahrain, too, only 0699 seconds were left for victor Sebastian Vettel, who fought with falling tires.
Since the World Cup is now entering the hot phase and counts for Hamilton every point, it will probably be even more difficult for Bottas to finally stand on top. Even if he still considers victories to be realistic: “If I have a good pace and drive hard in qualifying and racing, then I can definitely win.”
He also knows, “it’s certainly easier if Lewis secures the title.” In this respect, it would even make sense for him, to raise the British as a water carrier to the fifth World Cup crown. But according to his own information Bottas does not argue with fate: “As long as I perform well, I will also get the results I deserve.”
View of Singapore
Already at the coming race in Singapore? It’s hard to say, because the initial situation isn’t exactly favourable. In recent years Mercedes has always had problems on the city course. Lewis Hamilton’s second place in the previous year is mainly due to the failures of the two Ferrari pilots and Red Bull pilot Max Verstappen after a startup collision.
“We go there with the attitude that anything can happen,” says Bottas. “We go there with the attitude that anything can happen.” We’ve seen that, 2017. But hopefully we will be a little more competitive there compared to last year.”The Finnish knows:”Red Bull will be strong and Ferrari is fast everywhere. We don’t know how good we’ll be, but hopefully we’ll get more points than Ferrari.”
